Ministry of Health Malaysia Receives Regional Recognition for COVID-19 Management

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 November 2020 – Malaysia’s position as the World’s Healthcare Marvel was further cemented at the Global Health Asia Pacific Awards 2020. This was supported through 26 awards won this year, including the ‘Stellar COVID-19 Achievement of the Year’ category, which was awarded to the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

Receiving this award, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Dr. Adham Baba, Minister of Health Malaysia noted that, “This recognition is truly for our dedicated and committed frontliners who have sacrificed time and effort as they held the fort in managing the pandemic and keeping us safe. To all of them, I extend my heartfelt gratitude.”

Adding to his gratitude towards all frontliners, the Minister of Health reiterated Malaysia’ capability and philosophy of unity which has kept the nation thriving during these uncertain times. “2020 has truly demonstrated the strength and resilience of Malaysia’s healthcare system amid a global pandemic. As a nation, we have come together, authorities, frontliners and citizens, to protect the country and keep the nation as safe as possible,” he added.

Apart from gaining recognition for Malaysia’s outstanding performance in managing the pandemic, Malaysia leaders and leading healthcare institutions made a sweep of wins at the awards. (Please see appendix for full list of awards).

This year marks the fifth installation of the awards organised by Global Health and Travel. The awards recognises the commitment of healthcare travel players in the Asia Pacific region who have demonstrated consistent standards in healthcare delivery and patient experience. The judging process of the awards employs a methodology comprising a consumer survey, panel of industry experts, fulfilment of a pre-determined judging criteria, market research reports as well as Global Health Asia Pacific’s expert knowledge.

Malaysia’s world-class quality, easily accessible, and affordable healthcare continues to be commended by international bodies amidst the global pandemic. It was one of the countries that demonstrated the best COVID-19 response recognised by the World Health Organization (WHO). Malaysia also reclaimed the coveted ‘Destination of the Year’ and ‘Cluster of the Year’ titles, each for the fourth time at the International Medical Travel Journal (IMTJ) Medical Travel Awards 2020 in London.
