KUALA LUMPUR: KPJ Tawakkal Specialist Hospital, a unit of KPJ Healthcare Bhd, will contribute 15 per cent of its earnings to the group’s 2020 total medical tourism revenue target of RM200 million.KPJ Tawakkal KL chairman Jasimah Hassan said the decision followed the hospital’s initiative to add Kuala Lumpur’s initials to its name and rebrand as KPJ Tawakkal KL Specialist Hospital (KPJ Tawakkal KL), in a bid to promote the city as the preferred destination for health tourists locally and internationally.Speaking to reporters after the rebranding ceremony here today, she revealed that KPJ Tawakkal KL as of 2019 had generated a revenue of RM14 million with more than 20,000 international patients recorded.
She said the hospital in 2017 received the platinum KL Mayor’s Tourism Award in the Medical Tourism Category for its high standard of excellence in medical tourism services.“I believe we will also be a good representative of Kuala Lumpur in the international market, in line with the government’s aspiration to make the country a destination for international travellers seeking world-class healthcare services,” she added.Jasimah said the move also coincided with the launch on Jan 1 of Malaysia Year of Healthcare Travel (MYHT) 2020 or #MyHealthis2020, the first major international healthcare travel campaign by the Malaysian Health Travel Council (MHTC).
She said KPJ Tawakkal KL presently caters to health tourists mainly from Indonesia, Somaliland, the Middle East and 140 other countries, in addition to the growing number of local patients.“This hospital has made it our focus to continue bringing in new technology while also improving our services for the benefit of our patients, no matter from within Malaysia or abroad.“In tandem with this, KPJ Tawakkal KL is also launching (today) our new online mobile application dubbed ‘Prihatin Buddy’, which has a built-in purchase-for-me facility, whereby patients can order from retail outlets in the hospital without having to leave their beds and pay cash on delivery,” she said.
Earlier in her speech, Jasimah said KPJ Tawakkal KL has further enhanced its cardiac response service with a round-the-clock or 24-hour team to give patients fast access to life-saving emergency treatment.“The cost of treatments in Malaysia is highly competitive and KPJ Tawakkal KL continuously ensures our prices remain affordable but with better quality compared to our regional peers. – Bernama
