Positive outlook for Malaysia’s healthcare travel industry

The Government has recently announced a budget allocation for the healthcare travel industry placed under the purview of Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC). The healthcare travel industry has been recognised as a priority export service with potential for a strong rebound. MHTC is committed to utilising the budget to boost the healthcare travel industry in an effort to aid in revitalisation of the Malaysian economy and improve the healthcare delivery services via digitalisation.

“On behalf of Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), we are greatly honoured to receive the Government’s support of RM 35 million as announced in the recent Budget 2021 (Belanjawan 2021). In these unprecedented times, we are honoured that the Government has placed their trust in us to optimise the healthcare travel industry for economic revitalisation. To date, Malaysia Healthcare has adapted to the changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the firm support rendered by the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy), Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance, and the National Security Council. Malaysia Healthcare has the potential to contribute up to RM 10 billion to the economy as the industry recovers. Their continued faith in Malaysia Healthcare will open more doors to embrace transformations in healthcare which will improve overall healthcare economics and benefit Malaysians as well. Their support and advocacy for Malaysia Healthcare will also further propel Malaysia’s profile as the World’s Healthcare Marvel,” Sherene Azli, Chief Executive Officer, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council.
