Traveloka Launches Medical Heroes Appreciation Campaign, Recognising Healthcare Workers for Serving Malaysia amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Kuala Lumpur, 18 June 2020 – Traveloka, Southeast Asia’s leading online travel and lifestyle experiences booking platform, presents the Medical Heroes Appreciation Campaign to celebrate and recognise the immense sacrifice the frontline workers made to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia. Starting from June 17 to December 31, 2020, all healthcare workers ranging from doctors, nurses, to admin staff will be eligible to book accommodation across Malaysia with a special discount of up to 40% via Traveloka app and website. This initiative is part of an exclusive collaboration between Traveloka with hotel partners, Malaysian Health Travel Council (MHTC) and Malaysian Medical Association (MMA).

Malaysia has recorded a steady decline in new positive cases across the country with the total of 651 active cases still receiving treatment and recovery rate stood at 90.9% (as per June 17). Many districts are also transitioning into the green zone, leaving only two red zones. “The achievement of this country in containing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic will not be as excellent if it is not because of the support and contribution of our medical heroes. They have worked day and night in a bid to keep the communities safe, even risking their own safety. Demonstrating our tremendous gratitude towards them, Traveloka works alongside our hotel partners and is in collaboration with MHTC and MMA to provide a token of appreciation by giving the healthcare frontliners a special rate to stay at our accommodation inventories across Malaysia,” said Angelica Chan, Traveloka Country Market Manager for Malaysia.

Dr N. Ganabaskaran, President of Malaysian Medical Association expressed his warm welcome towards Traveloka initiative, “Malaysian Medical Association appreciates the positive gesture from Traveloka’s Medical Heroes Appreciation Campaign. This exclusive collaboration is part of our way to thank our colleagues for their determination and professionalism in working tirelessly to help contain the COVID-19 pandemic since March. We are also thankful for the support from all parties that give us strength to march forward during this difficult time.”

Supported by more than 250 hotel partners in Malaysia, all medical workers under Malaysian Health Travel Council (MHTC) and Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) can enjoy automatic special rates

by using their corporate email in Traveloka app or website. After months of hardship that the medical workers must endure, they can finally indulge themselves with family or loved ones by staying at one of Traveloka’s trusted accommodation partners, such as PARKROYAL Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur, Impiana KLCC Hotel at Kuala Lumpur City Centre, The Haven Resort Hotel at Ipoh, Dorsett Residence Bukit Bintang, Swiss-Garden Hotel Melaka, Macalister Hotel by PHC at Penang and many more. The list of participating partners for this campaign will continue to grow as Traveloka is working to ink more agreements with more hotels to provide varied experiences for the medical workers.

Nik Yazmin Nik Azman, Chief Commercial Officer, MHTC said, “These past months have been a challenging time for everyone as we navigate unchartered territories brought on by the COVID-19 global pandemic. In this time, we are proud to say that Malaysia has been able to manage the situation well – a testament to our advanced and robust healthcare system whilst showing that Malaysia is indeed the World’s Healthcare Marvel. While we continue to work towards eradicating the virus, we would like to take a moment to appreciate our front liners, whose dedication and courage have been nothing short of spectacular, earning us international recognition. Thus, we have embarked on a partnership with Traveloka as we want them to feel appreciated and valued through this special treatment while they continue to shield us.”
