The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) supports the announcement made by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and the implementation of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO). This move will not only help generate economic benefits for the nation, but also encourage industry rebound for healthcare travel – a crucial contributor to our country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
True to our recognition as the World’s Healthcare Marvel, Malaysia played host to over 1.3 million healthcare travellers, achieving more than RM1.7 billion in hospital receipts in 2019 alone. Although the pandemic has had a profound impact on the industry, patient and visitor safety have been and always will be top priority for all of us, especially within the healthcare sector. Thus, as our international borders remain closed, discussions are underway to find a suitable and safe method to allow entry from overseas visitors. Until then, our organisation remains committed towards the Malaysia Healthcare brand and we will continue our efforts to promote the country’s encouraging and effective public health measures as the World’s Healthcare Marvel.
While we have reached a new phase in our continued battle against COVID-19, we must remain vigilant and exercise all measures of precaution to avoid another surge of cases within the country. We urge everyone to continue adhering to the advice and standard operating procedures furnished by the Ministry of Health as we do our part to prevent the spread of the disease by practicing the 3Ws – Wash, Wear, and Warn. Our move into the recovery, and subsequently normalisation phase not only reflects our strengths in healthcare, but also the confidence entrusted in us as the World’s Healthcare Marvel.
