CEO's Message

Assalamualaikum and warm greetings from Malaysia Healthcare.

2018 is coming to a close and I have to say that it has been a year of reflection, of looking inwards and strengthening ourselves as we braced challenges like the political shift, as well as the shift in ministerial authority for our organisation. We had faced and overcome many challenges on the domestic and global front and strengthened ties with various stakeholders and countries.

Change is the only constant in our lives, and we must do well to embrace it. With that in mind, it is with great pleasure that we announce that MHTC is now officially under the authority of the Ministry of Finance. The shift from Ministry of Health to Ministry of Finance signifies the trust that of the new government in our capability to provide safe and world-class quality healthcare services to healthcare travellers, showcasing healthcare travel in Malaysia as an export service with exponential growth while being a significant contributor to the nation's global positioning and income.

The new government has shown their support of our efforts in flourishing the healthcare travel industry in Malaysia. It is with this trust that they have given us a new mandate of achieving 25% industry growth for 2019. To assist us in achieving these new goals, the Malaysian government allocated RM20 million during the country’s tabling of Budget 2019 in November this year. We are ever grateful for this trust that the government has bestowed upon us!

In 2018, we continued to push Malaysia as a leading authority in healthcare travel through various initiatives. The third instalment of InsigHT 2018, aptly themed “Building Trust Towards Excellence”, was held with key industry players, thought leaders and leading medical travel experts to collaborate, innovate and share knowledge to foster the development of the industry. Trust is our greatest asset and we used that trust to exchanged information on the most pressing challenges faced the market today and how to overcome them! Aside from insigHT 2018, we also introduced the Medical Travel Media Awards 2018 (MTMA 2018) as part of our efforts to garner interest and awareness in Malaysia as a leading global destination for healthcare.

To drive Malaysia’s healthcare travel industry even further in 2019, Malaysia will continue to promote our niche treatments as the Asian Hub for Fertility and Cardiology. We will also celebrate the importance of health and relaxation with our Malaysia Year of Healthcare Travel 2020 (MYHT 2020) campaign, aimed to propel Malaysia to the world stage as a reputable global healthcare travel destination and to increase the economic impact contributed by both the health and tourism sectors. We are eager to welcome our campaign in line with MYHT 2020 – Share My Experience, which will be unveiled to our focus markets in the Asian region come early 2018.

2018 was a year of facing new adversities and challenges, improving on ourselves and growing, taking on new trials with gusto, and as we move into 2019, let us keep soaring higher with trust in one another. We have embraced it and continue to rise above any obstacles we face, it is time to keep adapting to change as we drive the industry towards success.

With the expectations for Malaysia Healthcare set much higher for 2019, I have hopes that every single one of us will work together to achieve success!

In 2019, let us all win together.

#MHMenangSamaSama #MHWinsTogether

Thank you.

Sherene Azli
CEO of Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council
