A Hundred Unsung Heroes: Dr. B. Rajasingam – Head of Department Accident & Emergency Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur

In an emergency department, you see everything and anything. But this is the COVID-19 pandemic that we’re talking about, so everybody was even more worried.

In an emergency department, you see everything and anything. But this is the COVID-19 pandemic that we’re talking about, so everybody was even more worried. Thus, it is important for me to maintain the department’s morale and ensure that the staff are treated well. It’s important that the family in the hospital is taken care first before we attend to our patients.

The biggest difference to me during the pandemic is the infection control level in addition to the usage of personal protection equipment (PPE). We have also had patients who weren’t so forthcoming with their status as they were quite fearful, though things are much better now. This current pandemic is also different from the previous one, SARS, which was short lived though more fatal.

As a frontliner, there is the risk of getting the virus. Thus, to take care of the safety of my family, I always ensure that I have my shower as soon as I get home as I don’t want to expose them to any danger.

We have done a good job so far as frontliners by putting up a united front in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic and will continue doing so. The journey ahead isn’t an easy one, but together we will work hard so Malaysia is continuously recognised for its pandemic management efforts.
