A Hundred Unsung Heroes: Baljit Kaur – Assistant Nurse, Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur

“The patients that I deal with in the fever tent are those who are suspected of having COVID-19, thus things can be difficult and tricky at times.”

I have been with Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur for the past 17 years. This year, the difference between working in the pandemic as opposed to my regular job scope is that I was working in a more conducive working environment prior to this. I also had all of my colleagues nearer to me. During the COVID-19 pandemic though, I was situated out of the department – I was placed in a fever tent, dressed in full PPE and the place was quite warm.

The patients that I deal with in the fever tent are those who are suspected of having COVID-19, thus things can be difficult and tricky at times. But I am grateful for the full support from my Head of Department, my bosses and thanks to the PPE, my safety is guaranteed.

Family-wise, I have been receiving great support from them. They have been constantly advising me to be careful since I work at a hospital and to always wear my full gear (PPE) that has been given to me. They also remind me to shower and clean myself before I go home. Otherwise, they are very proud of me working during the pandemic.

Seeing how Malaysia has successfully managed to handle the COVID-19 pandemic, I’m sure that it will help build trust among foreign patients. Together as a nation, we’ve worked hard and I’m sure these patients will want to come and seek treatment here.
