A Hundred Unsung Heroes: Noor Azreen – Infection Control Nurse, Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur

“As parents, it is hard to stay away from our children, but we knew we were needed to fight this battle.”

I started out as a staff nurse, then I continued my studies and had my post-basic in infection control. Prior to COVID-19, my role was to help reduce hospital acquired infection. But during the pandemic, everything changed – the whole situation was new to us and we had to learn fast.

I’ve been running around with the team to do our best for the hospital and to ensure everyone is safe, not just the patients but also our fellow colleagues. We ensure that everyone complies with the guidelines and wears PPE within hospital premises. This is a tough period for all of us, so we need to encourage each other to stay safe.

When COVID-19 pandemic first started, I had a 4-month old baby and a toddler. My husband, a policeman, was a fellow frontliner, and we were both needed at work. However, we were lucky to get support from my mother and our babysitter, who took care of our children. As parents, it is hard to stay away from our children, but we knew we were needed to fight this battle.

Well, it’s not the end of COVID-19 yet and the fight still goes on. The manner in which our government has efficiently managed the pandemic will certainly help to increase the trust in healthcare travelers. In the meantime, be safe because the fight is still not over!
