A Hundred Unsung Heroes: Sister Tan Sock Ling – Nurse Manager, Sunway Healthcare

“The COVID-19 pandemic witnessed the dedication and perseverance from all frontliners and it’s heartwarming to know that we’re doing all we can for our country.”

The COVID-19 pandemic has proven to be quite a challenge for us though we’re much more settled now compared to when the pandemic first struck us. Still, the situation hasn’t been easy for any of us at the hospital, but what’s most important is that we constantly reassure our patients of their safety and protection.

Job wise, there’s certainly a difference in terms of what I do now compared to before the pandemic. Seeing that we are now more focused in terms of infection control, thus emphasis is fully given on cleanliness and hygiene than ever before.

I have come across patients who were quite hesitant to take the test as they weren’t aware of the process. In situations like this, it’s crucial that we comfort them to let them know that their health is of importance to us.

Speaking of health, my family was constantly on edge as they were concerned that I ran the risk of being infected. I had to put on my nurse cap when I spoke to them, reassuring them that I am always complying with the SOPs to make sure that I am protected.

The COVID-19 pandemic witnessed the dedication and perseverance from all frontliners and it’s heartwarming to know that we’re doing all we can for our country. Our government has

done a good job so far, but it also boils down to teamwork among all relevant bodies for us to achieve zero cases.
