The Malaysia Healthcare Advantage for Omanis

Stem Cell | Fertility | Rehabilitation | Neurology

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) organised a public health talk at the Best Western Premier Hotel, Al Khuwair, Muscat, Omar, on 15 November 2015 during the recently held Sixth Oman-Malaysia Golf Tournament. Aimed at educating those interested in the healthcare travel scene in Malaysia, the event was attended by an audience that consisted of healthcare providers and facilitators, as well as members of the public.

The public health talk highlighted services offered by Malaysia’s hospitals, particularly in fields such as fertility, rehabilitation, neurology and stem cell treatments. His Excellency Umardin Hj Abdul Mutalib, Ambassador of Malaysia to Oman led the Malaysian team while His Excellency Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhy, Minister of Oil & Gas Oman led the Omani team.
Also in attendance were representatives from Malaysia’s leading private hospitals, including the Pantai Group of Hospitals, KPJ Healthcare and TMC Fertility & Women’s Specialist Centre, which later held individual sessions on the services available for health travellers at each of their facilities.

In his welcoming remarks, HE Umardin Hj Abdul Mutalib highlighted, “Malaysia’s healthcare system is well regulated by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, ensuring that patients receive impeccable standards of quality and safety.”

He went on to appreciate the representatives from the private hospitals as well as the consultants led by MHTC for their continued efforts in strengthening ties with Oman. “Furthermore, Malaysia’s affordable treatments with Arabic speaking translators available upon request as well as its Muslim-friendly hospital environment are sure to appeal to the Omanis,” he added. Malaysia’s standing as a Global Halal Hub gives it a niche appeal to markets with consumers seeking halal-compliant options and environments, not only for themselves but also for accompanying family members. This, coupled with the favourable exchange rate, makes Malaysia an ideal healthcare travel destination for Omanis.

Malaysia has seen considerable success in the healthcare travel industry in recent years. Among others, it was named Medical Travel Destination of the Year at the International Medical Travel Journal (IMTJ) Medial Travel Awards 2015 and received the 2015 Public Private Partnership Medical Travel Destination of the Year Award at the 8th Annual World Medical Tourism & Global Healthcare Congress recently.

“With the strong backing of our government, the assurance of quality health care and the accolades received, it certainly reinforces the fact that Malaysia has all the makings to be the world’s leading healthcare provider, and that is what we will continue to strive towards,” said Sherene Azli, Chief Executive Officer of MHTC.

An initiative under the Ministry of Health, MHTC works closely with the country’s private healthcare facilities and public sector players in developing healthcare travel industry to greater heights.
